BC Plan NP Covers MHT at $0 Since March 1, 2026: What's Listed

Starting March 1, 2026, British Columbia's National Pharmacare Plan (Plan NP) began fully covering many menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) products for BC residents enrolled in the Medical Services Plan, including those in the MSP wait period, with $0 charged to patients for the medication or the dispensing fee.

What the plan covers

The BC PharmaCare benefit list for Plan NP MHT, last updated June 8, 2026, groups covered products into oral micronized progesterone, vaginal estrogen, topical estrogen and estrogen/progesterone gels and patches, oral estradiol, oral conjugated estrogen, and oral medroxyprogesterone. Special Authority is not required for any MHT benefit covered under Plan NP.

Full vs. partial benefit designations

Several listed products carry a partial benefit designation, meaning they are subject to Low Cost Alternative (LCA) pricing rather than full coverage. Products flagged as partial benefit include:

• Estradot 50, 75, and 100 mcg/24 hours patches
• PMS-Estradiol oral tablets at 0.5 mg, 1 mg, and 2 mg strengths
• Provera medroxyprogesterone 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg tablets

Products with full benefit status listed on the same page include Estrogel (estradiol 1.25 g gel pump, DIN 2238704), the Climara 25, 50, and 75 patches, Estradot 25 and 37.5 patches, Sandoz Estradiol Derm 50/75/100 patches, Divigel 0.25/0.5/1 mg gel packets, Premarin vaginal cream (DIN 2043440), IMVEXXY 4 mcg and 10 mcg vaginal inserts, and Premarin oral extended-release tablets at 0.3, 0.625, and 1.25 mg.

Oral progesterone additions

The Plan NP oral micronized progesterone list contains five 100 mg capsule products with full benefit status: PMS-Progesterone (DIN 2476576), Reddy-Progesterone (DIN 2463113), Auro-Progesterone (DIN 2493578), Progesterone (DIN 2516187), and M-Progesterone (DIN 2551268). Fees not covered by Plan NP

The federal Health Canada summary of national pharmacare notes that the plan covers the cost of listed products and the dispensing fee only. It does not cover delivery fees or pharmacist prescribing fees. Plan NP dispenses also do not count toward the Fair PharmaCare deductible or family maximum.

Which provinces have signed on

Health Canada currently lists British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, and Yukon as jurisdictions with signed bilateral national pharmacare funding agreements. Residents outside these jurisdictions remain under provincial or territorial drug benefit programs; see Ontario coverage for one example of a non-participating province.

Context for out-of-pocket comparisons

For BC residents enrolled in MSP who fill a Plan NP-listed MHT product with full benefit status, the patient cost is $0.
