What Alberta's public drug programs cover for contraception and menopause hormone therapy (HRT — clinically, menopausal hormone therapy or MHT), sourced from the province's own program pages.
Contraception
Partial coveragePartially covered — a real program exists, but it is not free or universal.
NOT free/universal. Alberta opted out of the federal pharmacare deal covering contraceptives and diabetes medication (announced Feb 2024, reaffirmed Oct 2024). Coverage otherwise exists only through paid Non-Group Coverage (premiums ~$63.50–$118/month + 30% coinsurance up to $25, under 65) or Coverage for Seniors (65+, premium-free but 30% copay up to $35 as of April 1, 2026), or private insurance.

Menopause hormone therapy (MHT / HRT)
Partial coveragePartially covered — a real program exists, but it is not free or universal.
NOT free/universal; no dedicated MHT program was found. The same paid Non-Group Coverage / Coverage-for-Seniors / private-insurance framework used for contraception is the only route to any provincial cost-sharing for MHT drugs.
