Contraception and HRT coverage in New Brunswick
What New Brunswick's public drug programs cover for contraception and menopause hormone therapy (HRT — clinically, menopausal hormone therapy or MHT), sourced from the province's own program pages.
Contraception
Partial coveragePartially covered — a real program exists, but it is not free or universal.
NOT free/universal. Contraceptive medication cost is covered only for New Brunswick Prescription Drug Program (NBPDP) enrollees (mainly GIS-receiving seniors, income-support recipients). Since June 6, 2022 government pays pharmacists to assess/prescribe birth control, but the drug cost itself is not covered for the general public. Premier Holt's 2024 campaign pledge to make it free was left unfunded in the March 2026 provincial budget.

Menopause hormone therapy (MHT / HRT)
Partial coveragePartially covered — a real program exists, but it is not free or universal.
NOT free/universal; no dedicated MHT program was found. MHT drugs would fall under the same eligibility-gated NB Drug Plan/NBPDP framework (seniors, nursing/residential-facility residents, Social Development clients, those with specified medical conditions) as any other formulary drug.
